Love Cycling

Cycling is one of Middlesbrough’s biggest sustainable transport success stories with an ever-expanding network of cycle paths, ways and cycle friendly infrastructure.

Pedal power is undoubtedly one the best ways to get around the Tees Valley. Over 70Km of routes are available, including National Cycle Networks routes 1 and 65. It’s an easy journey from popular commuter town Stockton to Middlesbrough town centre, for example, with mainly flat and traffic free terrain that passes along scenic disused railway lines, the River Tees and countryside.

Cycling has never been more accessible. The town's active travel hub is now located in the Cleveland Centre on Grange Road - Walking and Cycling Hubs - Travel - Tees Valley (teesvalley-ca.gov.uk).  The Council has also increased cycling amongst Middlesbrough Council employees, with significant numbers of employees using the excellent cycle network for both commuting and leisure opportunities.

Excellent facilities close to Centre Square make sure cyclists arrive at their desk on time relaxed and fresh.

The Cycle Centre offers free level 3 cycling courses to promote safe and confident cycling and can work with individuals to help them plan the most accessible cycle route to and from work - even cycling the route with them the first time.
