Education

Middlesbrough pupils benefit from a full range of education providers such as academies, faith schools and Local Authority Maintained schools. The vast majority of schools have been judged by Ofsted to be good or outstanding.

Many pupils make very good progress in order to reach national standards. By the time they leave primary school, Middlesbrough pupils achieve broadly in line with most children nationally and often make better progress than most children do nationally.

Middlesbrough’s primary school results are improving at a faster rate than the national picture and this means that, if this rate is sustained, children will leave primary school above the national rate.

Middlesbrough schools collaborate well together to improve results and to research and develop innovative and effective ways to make learning more engaging and meaningful for pupils. As part of these projects the schools have worked with nationally and internationally respected bodies. GCSE results come close to the national average by the government’s measure of Grade 4 and above.

The area also has several prestigious private schools including Teesside High School, Red House School and Yarm School.
