Celebrating business growth in Teesside
As one of leading business districts in the North East, Teesside is hitting headlines daily for the strong business growth, investment and job creation that’s ongoing within the region. As Middlesbrough’s newest commercial development, we wanted to take it upon ourselves to celebrate the good and the great of Teesside’s business elite – the positive stories that have made people take stock of just how much the region’s thriving. So, let’s take a dive into some of the biggest success stories of the past month.
£800,000 investment for family-run business It was great news for Industrial as this family-run Teesside business was granted a £800,000 investment from FW Capital, giving them the ability to take on a £2m contract and relocate to a new base! Already with a 40-strong workforce, Industrial will now be able to create 10 new jobs in the region thanks to the investment which is split £300,000 from the Tees Valley Catalyst Fund and £500,000 from the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (NPIF). This amazing company has steadily expanded into a global industry leader and has completed major projects worldwide – its managing director was even awarded an MBE for Services to Engineering Skills and Apprenticeships in Teesside in the New Year’s Honours. The support that’s out there across the region for those who need a helping hand is outstanding, and we’re delighted to hear of Industrial’s incredible successes.
Celebrating longevity in Middlesbrough Longevity is something that all companies aspire towards – we see countless companies who want to grow astronomically, haven’t quite got the business plan nailed and, unfortunately, crash and burn before take-off. Not ERW, however, as they have just celebrated their 40th birthday in Middlesbrough! ERW is regarded as one of the north’s leading providers of bespoke timber windows and doors having worked on many local prestige buildings including Hartlepool’s former Post Office, Stewarts Park, Rockliffe Hall, Norton Hall and Wilton Castle as well as many other historic buildings throughout the North East. Having been based in the town for four decades, trading has seen its ups and downs, however the team are happy to report that they’ve just celebrated their most successful year to date, with a turnover of £2m. A huge congratulations to this iconic and thriving Middlesbrough business. |
1,000 jobs are incoming Have you heard of the TeesAMP development? Well, it’s one of the largest developments in the North East right now – 11 hectares – and upon completion it will be a state-of-the-art £55m advanced manufacturing park situated at the former Newport Ironworks. Whilst this in itself is an achievement and is bringing with it a lot of positive stories, the key celebratory factors sits within its job creation capabilities. The TeesAMP site will bring to the region a staggering 1,000 jobs! This is already in full flow as the contractors have mainly appointed local businesses, sub-contractors and suppliers to ensure the work stays within the Tees Valley area. Phase one of TeesAMP is due for completion in early 2020 and will include 180,000sq ft of space – with buildings ranging in size from 3,000 sq ft to 30,000 sq ft.
A little help from our friends Business growth can be hard to achieve alone, which is why the Tees Valley region offers a range of schemes that help bolster growth, create new jobs and drive innovation. One of the key schemes is the Innovate Tees Valley project. This ground-breaking partnership led by Teesside University began in November 2016, and in the three years that it’s run it has:
This project has created a lasting impact on the region’s productivity and innovation culture, increasing new products and services and improving knowledge-base connectivity, export potential, and know-how. Tees Valley’s Mayor, Ben Houchen, made a fantastic point in discussion about the scheme, saying: “The number of local companies that have taken advantage of this programme shows just how entrepreneurial and ambitious our region’s businesses are.” Do you want to be a part of it?
